Chili's Copycat Salsa

A Restaurant Inspired Recipe you can make in 5 minutes or less

Whether you are adding salsa to scrambled eggs, chicken, baked potatoes (just try it; trust me!) fish, tacos, or any of your other favorite dishes, it’s a great addition to any meal!

Not only will it provide numerous health benefits, but it’s also a perfect way to season your food without adding salt, sugar, or fat.

Does it matter which blender I use?

The short answer is yes and no. If you are following this recipe, it is designed to be very quick (5 minutes or less) so the ready to use ingredients are easy to blend. One of the best value blenders I have used is this Hamilton Beach model, typically available for under $30 from Amazon.

However, when combining or blending raw ingredients, more power is always better. A Ninja Blender is an excellent mi-priced model with loads of power behind it. You can also order the Ninja blender right off of amazon.

The many combinations of vegetables and fruits in salsa can supply a wide range of antioxidant vitamins, natural phytochemicals (such as lycopene in tomatoes), and the mineral potassium that is in such short supply in our diets.

Use with your favorite dip vehicle (nothing beats a perfectly crispy tortilla chip!) or as a condiment for a huge array of breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner dishes.

What about the tomatoes? Why whole and not diced?

If you are following the quick, 5 minute, recipe below, one of the biggest shortcuts is to use canned tomatoes. Whole tomatoes offer more pulp and less top core/stem scar than diced ones. It will make for a smoother salsa.

We love using these Muir Glen organic, whole canned tomatoes that are delivered to our door.

Ingredients

  • 2 (4 ounce) cans of jalapeno peppers

  • 1 medium onion or 2 small onions

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon cumin

  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar, splenda or swerve sugar substitute

  • The juice from one lime, or 2 teaspoons of lime juice

Instructions

Place all of the ingredients together into a blender and puree until smooth. Enjoy!
